The precocious 17-year-old Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet) enjoys the Northern Italian summer of 1983 in the 17th-century villa of his family. The Italian-American boy spends his time playing and transcribing classical music, reading, and flirting with his girlfriend Marzia (Esther Garrel). Elio is closely connected to his parents. His father (Michael Stuhlbarg), a respected professor, specializes in Greco-Roman culture. Elio's mother Annella (Amira Casar) works as a translator.
